Wild Filip Gustavsson Scores Rare Goalie Goal in 4-1 Win vs. Blues – Hockey Writers – NHL News
The Minnesota Wild (2-0-2) kept their season-opening streak alive with a 4-1 road win over the St. Louis Blues (2-2-0) on Tuesday, October 15. The first of four meetings between different enemies went to the northern group.
With help from stars Kirill Kaprizov and Brock Faber, Ryan Hartman managed to get the power play at 3:50 of the first period. Up 1-0 in the morning, the Wild never looked back.
In his fourth game as a member of the Wild, Jakub Lauko got on the board. The shorthanded goal was assisted by rookie forward Marat Khusnutdinov and defender Jonas Brodin. It was the former’s fourth service and the final 188, highlighting the contrast of experience.
Minnesota followed up with goals where the men on each side were at equal strength, scored by youngster Marco Rossi for the first time in the new campaign. Mats Zuccarello had his second assist of the season and Kaprizov had his fifth, which puts him among the league’s early leaders in that category. It’s off to a hot start with six points from four matches.
Midway through the final frame, the Blues showed signs of life. Mathieu Joseph scored his first goal as a Blue in a good sequence of pressure inside the attacking area. Zachary Bolduc and Philip Broberg had assists, and the latter has surpassed two of the three points in his three seasons with the Edmonton Oilers (he scored in the fourth). The 23-year-old defender was handed a sheet in the summer.

Unfortunately the St. Louis, the Wild put the game away for nothing. However, this was no ordinary goal—it was scored by the goalkeeper. Filip Gustavsson scored as many goals as he allowed, firing one the length of the ice and right on target. He is the first netminder to do so since Tristan Jarry of the Pittsburgh Penguins on Nov. 30, 2023.

In addition to scoring goals, Gustavsson stopped 27 of the 28 shots he faced. On the other hand, Jordan Binington made 23 saves on 26 shots for the Blues.
Next, the St. Louis will stay in Missouri to face the New York Islanders on Oct. 17. The Wild will get a break, not seeing the ice again until Oct. 19 to wrap up their season series against the Columbus Blue. Jackets. This time, Minnesota will be on the road.
