Wolves striker Hwang Hee-chan is said to have racially abused Como

Wolves striker Hwang Hee-chan was allegedly racially abused during a training session against Serie A side Como in Marbella.

Gary O’Neil’s side were playing Como, now managed by Cesc Fabregas, in their pre-season camp, but things turned chaotic in the second half when Hwang accused the Como defender of racially abusing him.

After that Daniel Podence, who spent the last season on loan from Olympiakos was sent off for hitting his opponents in bad incidents, Wolves won the game 1-0.

The player from South Korea insisted that the game will continue even though he had the opportunity to leave the field, and O’Neil confirmed after the game that Hwang told the referee about the incident, and Wolves will file a claim with Uefa.

“Channy has heard racist comments that are really embarrassing,” O’Neil told the Express & Star.

“You could see that Channy was together and it was clear that he was angry with him and so were the boys. You could hear a lot of people trying to comfort Channy and holding on to him.

Hwang was allegedly racially abused in Como.

“It’s really disappointing that it happened, that we have to talk about it and that it has an impact on the game, it’s not good and things like this shouldn’t exist.

“I spoke to Channy and asked him if he wants us to take the team out, but he didn’t want to, he wants the team to continue. I asked him if he wanted to get off, he wanted to continue.

“To play well for him, to be hurt like that and put the team first, shows what he is to us and how important he is to us. He will have our full support and we will pick him up in the morning and make sure he is okay.”

On Podence’s red card, O’Neil admitted the 28-year-old had gone too far.

“Daniel was then removed because of his hand sticking to him, which was obviously excessive,” he added.

“Daniel has apologized for his part in it. I understand that he is holding on to his partner and we need that, a united team and when one of us gets hurt we support them.

“But obviously we have to make sure that stays on the right side of the line and we don’t cross that line.”

Hwang’s future at Wolves is uncertain as Marseille have had a £21m bid rejected for the striker and Wolves are believed to want £28m more.

On the other hand, Podence has one year left on his Wolves contract, and Olympiakos is determined to return him to Greece.
