Women’s Asia Cup 2024 schedule: India will play Pakistan on the opening day

I Asian Cricket Council (ACC) unveiled the revised schedule for the upcoming Women’s Asia Cup, to be held in Dambulla, Sri Lanka. The tournament will run from July 19 to July 28, promising ten days of exciting cricket.

Fans can expect a fiery start as India conflict with major rivals Pakistan in their group stage opener. However, the curtain raiser will see United Arab Emirates (UAE) locking horns with Nepal.

This edition marks a significant increase, including eight teams, one more than the 2022 competition. Bangladesh. India, the defending champions after a massive eight-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the 2022 final, will be looking to extend their reign. The first postponement of the tournament since 2020 due to COVID-19 serves as a reminder of the resilience of women’s cricket in the region.

Joining the powerhouses of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will be the semi-finalists of the recently concluded Women’s Premier Cup 2024 – UAE, Malaysia, Nepal and Thailand. This expanded format promises to showcase the rising talent in Asian cricket.

2024 AFC Women’s Cup Teams:

The eight teams are divided into two groups. Group A boasted India, Pakistan, UAE and Nepal, while Group B included Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Thailand, and Malaysia. The top two teams from each group will compete in the semi-finals, scheduled for July 26, with the champions crowned on July 28.
