Yorkshire boys enjoy sweep in County Finals – Golf News

Yorkshire were crowned the 2024 Boys’ County Finals after beating Gloucestershire, Kent and Cambridgeshire at Teignmouth Golf Club in Devon.

After beating Gloucestershire (5.5-3.5) and Kent (6-3) in the first two days, they saw off Cambridgeshire 6.5-2.5 on Thursday to defend the trophy.

Tai Naylor was from Yorkshire and one of two unbeaten players in the event, scoring 5.5 out of the six points available, while Thomas Hartshorne and 14-year-old Alex Boyes also won five out of six points in excellent games.

Naylor said: “It’s been a brilliant week all week, with a lot of hard work from the lads.”

Yorkshire coach Steve Robinson added: “In the last final we lost by a narrow margin. We often do the same things and go through the same processes, so there was a lot of work in the preparations that went really well and we came out the other side as winners.

“The county has invested heavily in young players and we hope they will continue to do that and develop world-class players – we have three playing against England next week and that is a testament to the county’s system.”

Elsewhere, a stunning effort from 14-year-old Jaxson Perry saw the Gloucestershire youngster win five points from a point to help his side finish second overall, with a 5.5-3.5 victory over Kent on the final day.

Cambridgeshire finished in third place with their star player Sam Marshall winning 5.5 points from the six available and finishing unbeaten.
