Yves Bissouma ‘shot tear gas and robbed’ while on holiday in France

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma is receiving support from the club following an alleged violent robbery while on holiday in the south of France.
Not part of Mali’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers this month, Bissouma used the time to fly to Cannes with his wife to rest and relax after the end of the 2023/24 season.
But this trip ended up being cut short after reports from France detailed that Bissouma was the victim of an attack by two men with tear gas. His agent, Bastien Caire, then confirmed that the 27-year-old had his watch, thought to be worth around £250,000, stolen when the attackers fled the scene.
The incident reportedly took place around four o’clock in the morning on Sunday outside a luxury hotel on the Promenade de la Croisette in Cannes. But the attempts to escape from the building failed when Bissouma told the local police, it was found that the doors were locked.
French police are investigating, although Bissouma and his wife are believed to have returned to London a few hours later.
“We are aware of the incident and will continue to assess the welfare of Yves and his family,” Tottenham said in a short statement.
Bissouma made 28 appearances for Spurs in Ange Postecoglou’s first season in charge, most of them as a starter. He ended up missing five games due to suspension of yellow and red cards, while participating in the Africa Cup of Nations in January and February, the player did not play three Premier League games and two more in the FA Cup.
The former Brighton & Hove Albion player has not represented his country since the Afcon. His relationship with the football association in Mali has been good for the past few months as he is said to have been angered by the decision to ignore him in international games in March. Bissouma was suffering from malaria during the Afcon tournament but continued to play despite the disease.
