Erik ten Hag has stopped Man United from signing a world-class goalkeeper

Erik ten Hag made an unusual decision at Manchester United regarding their transfer which the team will regret for a long time.

It is well known that the manager of Man United has the authority to have a say on who the club will sign, which the new leadership of INEOS has decided to change.

The Dutchman’s future has been settled at Old Trafford and the Red Devils have decided to keep him at the club, following uncertainty over his future this summer.

At Man United, ten Hags have signed well-known players in one way or another; like Antony, Lisandro Martinez and Andre Onana from Ajax or Sofyan Amrabat, ten Hag know from their time together in Utrecht.

In doing so, the Man United boss passed up the chance to sign Aston Villa and Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

The former Arsenal goalkeeper has made a name for himself as one of the best players in the world in his position, helping Aston Villa reach the top four and winning the Copa America and the World Cup with his country.

Gonzalo Goni, the agent of the Argentine goalkeeper, said that Man United wanted to sign Martinez but the ten-year-old Hag decided to go to Onana from Ajax.

Goni told ESPN:

“Last year he was very close to Manchester United, the coach chose Onana, because he already knew him.

Emi Martinez has been a huge success since his move from Arsenal to Aston Villa.

“But everyone at Manchester United later concluded that the right goalkeeper to win was Emiliano Martínez.

Andre Onana has struggled for Man United

Onana joined Man United and found it difficult to settle at the club. The former Inter Milan goalkeeper made many high-profile mistakes in his first Premier League season.

Despite winning the FA Cup, Onana cost Man United many points in the league and the Champions League and his form was the cause of their poor campaign in Europe.

United finished in eighth place in the league and scored 58 goals, the most goals they have ever scored in this competition, and ended up in eighth place, which is the worst they have finished in the league.

It would have been very different if the ten Hag had agreed to the signing of Martinez who had previous experience in the Premier League.
