Barcelona defender, Ronald Araujo, is expected to be sidelined for up to two months following a hamstring injury in the Copa America match against Brazil.
These La Liga giants have been sweating over the health of the midfielder, Pedri, who is looking at six weeks without playing after injuring his knee when Spain won the quarter final of Euro 2024 against Germany.
With news of Pedri’s injury fresh, Barcelona fans watched in shock on Sunday as Araujo limped off injured as Uruguay beat Brazil on penalties.
Araujo left the field with his head in his hands again Mundo Deportivo reported that he may need two months to recover in his latest magazine.
At the beginning of last season, Araujo was injured in the same area and did not play for five weeks, but there are fears that this problem is very serious and will require more time without playing.
“I think Ronald Araujo’s injury is serious, which will be confirmed tomorrow when the tests are done,” said Uruguay manager Marcelo Bielsa, who added that the busy football calendar may be to blame for the defender’s injury.
“An option that cannot be ignored,” continued Bielsa. “It is important to note that when the full season ends – the one that started in August and ended in June in Europe – the players accumulate between 40 and 50 games. Then comes the challenge of playing twice a week.
“All the top players in Europe play twice a week. It’s one thing to do it every nine months and another to do it again in the 10th and 11th month.”
Reports in Spain add that FIFA will compensate Barcelona financially for the injury to Araujo, who is likely to earn more than 700,000 euros during his expected absence.
Araujo had been linked with a transfer in the summer before his injury, with both Bayern Munich and Manchester United being considered as potential suitors, but his chances of leaving the Camp Nou will undoubtedly be reduced by the latest illness.
