Despite being the first seed in the Western Conference, the road for the Dallas Stars has not always been easy this postseason. On Monday night in Game 3 against the Edmonton Oilers, Dallas proved its resilience and bravery once again. After falling behind 2-0 in the first half in a difficult environment, the Stars relied on their top players to come back to win 5-3, which gave them a 2-1 win in the Western Conference finals.
Jason Robertson Hat Trick Spurs the Comeback
That Dallas never gave up should surprise no one. Less because they are a top club, but more because they have shown amazing consistency while playing away from home this spring. In game 3, they were already tied 5-1 in their finals.

However, the opening frame did not go well at all. Both Zach Hyman and Connor McDavid scored to give the home team a 2-0 lead. The lead was deserved considering the Oilers were outscoring all visitors.
But that all changed at halftime, with Jason Robertson at the center of the action. On his first night it was his only roar at the rally. That dropped the game to 2-1. His second to make it 2-2 involved pouncing on a loose puck in traffic in the Stuart Skinner zone. Teammate Wyatt Johnston then made it 3-2 before Edmonton leveled the scores with a rebound from Adam Henrique.
In the end, Robertson would have the last laugh in the third period. Dallas’ strong pressure in the Edmonton zone allowed the young American to collect the puck to Skinner’s right. The Oilers goaltender believed Robertson would try to get around, and it looks like he is. Instead, Robertson found the seams too small to bounce the puck from the goalie to the net. It was as unexpected as it was clever.
Sadly, the Oilers failed to apply much pressure after that and had to kill a time-consuming penalty. Miro Heiskanen sealed the deal with an empty netter. It advanced to the finals with a 5-3 win over the Stars, who lead the Western Conference Finals 2-1 and improved to 6-1 on the road in these contests.
Game 4 is scheduled for Thursday night in Edmonton.
