Alejandro Garnacho wins the Premier League 2023/24 Goal of the Season with a header.
Alejandro Garnacho’s extraordinary bicycle kick against Everton has been named the Premier League goal of the 2023/24 season.
The young Argentine scored in fine style in late November, scoring Manchester United 3-0 in their win over Everton at Goodison Park.
Unsurprisingly, this goal was compared to Wayne Rooney’s effort against Manchester City in 2011 by football fans around the world.
Garnacho celebrated his strike by doing the ‘Siuuu’ gesture of Cristiano Ronaldo, the world-class striker who is famous for scoring many overheads throughout his career.
“I can’t believe it to be honest,” said United’s number 17 after the final whistle at Goodison Park. “I didn’t see my goal. I just listened to the crowd and said, ‘Oh my god’.
It is the first time a United player has won the award since its inception in 2016/17.
Garnacho’s goal beat efforts from Man Utd teammates Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo, Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma, Brentford’s Saman Ghoddos, Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister, Manchester City’s Oscar Bobb and Chelsea duo Cole Palmer and Moises Caicedo.
The accolade comes after Garnacho starred in United’s 2-1 win over Manchester City in the FA Cup final on Saturday afternoon.
The speedy winger took advantage of a defensive mix-up between Cityzens duo Josko Guardiol and Stefan Ortega to put his side ahead on the half-hour mark. After just eight minutes, youngster Kobbie Mainoo doubled the lead again with a clever counterattack from captain Fernandes’ side.
It’s manager Erik ten Hag’s second piece of silverware at Old Trafford, but speculation continues to surround the Dutchman after reports emerged that United would sack him without a result at Wembley.
