With Trevor Zegras Available, Can the Montreal Canadiens Make a Play for Him?
Dave Pagnotta of the Fourth Season joined the Sirius XM NHL Network Radio Power Play Segment with Steve Kouleas and Carter Hutton, Pagnotta said that Anaheim’s Trevor Zegras is available and a team like the Montreal Canadiens could make a play for him.

Steve Kouleas: “My last question is Anaheim and Trevor Zegras. There was a word that you wrote about and talked about. I think it’s quiet now. I think there’s also no sense of urgency, the way he fought in his contract, what they had in the middle, I’m just guessing Pat Verbeek that, if the trade name has been released and Trevor is disappointed that this is in play, right?”
Dave Pagnotta: “He’s accessible and manageable. And, like you said, there’s no sense of urgency. They don’t have to make a move. But they will discuss those options with teams interested in him. There are groups that expressed that. Those talks will likely begin in the next few weeks and lead to an agreement, but Zegers has a few years left on his deal. You are available.
NHL Rumors: Anaheim Ducks, and St. Louis Blues
There are exciting teams out there with young players who are there, who are there too. Marco Rossi’s name is starting to make the rounds a little more. Also available in Minnesota. But Zegras plays center, he plays wing, he’s a young, bright guy. Obviously we know that, but the reason I think his name has been around for a while, there’s been speculation that there might not be a long-term desire to stay in Anaheim from that point of view.
He might be looking for something in the pizzazz market wise and that’s one of the types of rumors that are going around as to why he’s available and out there but there’s interest in him. It will continue to exist. His name will continue to come up especially as we approach next month’s draft in Vegas.”
Kouleas: “A market like Montreal?”
Pagnotta: “I think they are Canadian. I think Philadelphia. There are some couples who have wandered around to see if that is something they can have that conversation about later. But I would certainly be surprised if it appears that Montreal is not part of that mix.

But, it’s also that kind of market that I think he can do well in and he has that relationship with Cole Caufield. That would be a good fit. And the Canadiens are a team that not only looks good on defense, they’ve got a ton of small assets in the closet there.
But they have determination and have shown a willingness to get the move going before the deadline. They did it last year. They brought in Alex Newhook. The year before Kirby Dach. I expect they will be active again this summer. And if the right deal falls into place, Zegras will certainly be someone on Montreal’s radar. “
