Another American legend takes over John McEnroe’s captaincy at the Laver Cup.
Former World No. 1 and eight-time Grand Slam Champion Andre Agassi has been named World Captain of the Laver Cup Team and will begin his tenure at Laver Cup 2025 in San Francisco.
Agassi takes over from McEnroe, who has captained Team World since the inaugural Laver Cup in Prague in 2017. McEnroe will still have a head start this year as he leads Team World against Team Europe in Berlin, from September 20 to September 22.

“I am honored to accept the invitation to captain Laver’s World Cup team,” said Agassi, who will attend this year’s event in Berlin to prepare for his new gig. “Just seven years since the Laver Cup started, it has been a joy for the fans, including myself, to watch the team’s stars and compete in this amazing team.
“I hope to build harmony, respect and trust with the players like John did and I can’t wait to take on this role, it’s not something I take lightly.” McEnroe says Agassi is the right man for the job.
“I want to congratulate Andre on being the next World Team Captain, I know he’s the right man for the job,” said McEnroe, a seven-time major champion.
Additionally, it has been announced that Bjorn Borg’s successor as European Team Captain starting in 2025 will be announced in the coming days.
