To help him win the Premier League title, Arteta may now need the help of the former Tottenham player.
As the Gunners prepare for a busy transfer window expected to sign a striker, midfielder and defender, they have been linked with the England international who left North London on a free transfer back in 2019.
Sporting CP attacking midfielder Marcus Edwards is reportedly wanted by Arsenal, according to a report from Portugal’s O Jogo.
Five years ago, Spurs allowed the player to leave the club for free to join Vitoria de Guimaraes.
Now at Sporting and having contributed to their recent success, the player finds himself at the back of the pecking order.
The report reveals that the player is thinking of leaving the club after being disliked by manager Ruben Amorim.
The 25-year-old is also attracting interest from his former club Tottenham, which could make the race for his signature interesting between the two North London rivals.
This player was present in 15 goals for this Portuguese team last season as he scored six goals and registered nine assists.
Edwards could give Arsenal another attacking option
His ability to play on the wings and as an attacking midfielder is something that could prove valuable to both Premier League clubs interested in signing him.
He would provide speed and range to the North London clubs, both of whom are expected to be on the market this summer.
It remains to be seen whether interest in the player will be serious in the next few weeks.
The player will add depth in the wide areas, especially for Arsenal, as they plan to sign their wide players.
