Barcelona announced the decision to fire manager Xavi

Barcelona have announced the decision to fire manager Xavi.

The La Liga side confirmed the decision on their website to part ways with the club legend.

Before he leaves, Xavi will take charge of the club’s final La Liga game on Sunday at Sevilla.

After announcing in January that he would be stepping down from the Camp Nou at the end of the season, the Spaniard was confident he would stay on as manager last month.

However, this latest move from the Catalan giants will see the Spaniard leave the club.

Xavi was informed of the club’s decision in a meeting with Laporta and Deco, the sporting director, even though his contract expires in 2025.

In a statement on their official website, Barcelona confirmed the decision:

“Today, Friday, FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta told Xavi Hernández that he will not continue as first team coach for the 2024-25 season.

Xavi has been fired as Barcelona manager.

The meeting took place at Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper and was attended by the vice president of sports Rafa Yuste, the director of sports Anderson Luís de Souza, Deco, Xavi, Òscar Hernández and Sergio Alegre.

FC Barcelona wishes to thank Xavi for his work as a coach, as well as his unparalleled work as a player and as team captain, and wishes him all the best in the world for the future.

Xavi Hernández will be coaching the team for the last time in Sunday’s away game against Sevilla.”

Barcelona will replace him

Journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that former Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick, who won the treble with the German club, will be appointed as the new manager of the La Liga club.

After several months of negotiations, Barcelona have chosen the 59-year-old to be their manager next season.

Barcelona won La Liga last season under Xavi, but the team had a difficult season and finished well behind Real Madrid in the 2023-24 title race.
