Caitlin Clark’s USA Snub Team Called

Caitlin Clark didn’t make the final squad for Team USA at the Olympics and Stephen A. Smith isn’t happy about it.

Speaking on a recent episode of First Take, Smith said the move was “stupid”, saying Team USA was going to win the gold medal no matter what, so the team might as well include an electric women’s basketball player.

“Maybe they’ll win gold again, that’s not the conversation,” Smith said. “This is about what I would personally call the stupidity of Team USA Women’s Basketball. How do you make this decision? It’s stupid. And I’ll tell you why it’s stupid. I want all the women in this squad to know that everyone deserves it. Caitlin Clark doesn’t deserve a spot ahead of any of the players on this list, okay? If we’re just talking about basketball, but you know we’re not, you know we’re not.

“… This girl is a box office. I said a rising tide lifts all boats… It’s an opportunity to bring the WNBA brand together around the world. So people like Brittney Griner, God bless her soul and others don’t have to go to Russia in the off season to play more basketball to earn more money. They can stay here if the sport raises its popularity and you women start getting what you deserve.”

Clark himself responded humbly when asked about being left out of the group.

“I’m happy with the girls in the team,” he told reporters on Sunday. “I know it’s the most competitive team in the world and I know it could have gone either way — me being in the team or not being in the team. I will root them to win the gold. I was a kid who grew up watching the Olympics, so it will be fun to watch.

“Actually, there is no disappointment. It just gives me something to work on; it’s a dream. I hope one day I can be there. I think it’s just more motivation. You miss that. I hope that when four years have passed, I will be there.”
