Chelsea striker Sam Kerr has signed a two-year extension with the WSL champions

Chelsea striker, Sam Kerr, has signed a two-year contract with the club.

The 30-year-old was set to become a free agent this summer, but will now stay in West London until 2026.

Kerr, the Australian captain, has scored 99 goals in 128 appearances for the Blues since joining from the Chicago Red Stars in 2019.

He has been instrumental in helping Chelsea cement their dominance in the WSL over the past five years.

Under Emma Hayes, Kerr was part of a team that won five league titles in a row, as well as three FA Cups, two League Cups and the Community Shield.

The only trophy missing from his collection is the Champions League, which he will be hoping to win under new coach Sonia Bompastor.

Chelsea first posted a video on social media with Kerr reading what appeared to be a farewell message.

But a few minutes later, they revealed that the striker will stay at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking to the club’s website, he said: “It’s really exciting and a very proud moment for me.

“Having the opportunity to stay at a club like Chelsea means a lot to me.

“I’m very happy to keep pushing and trying to win trophies.”

Kerr missed the 2023-24 campaign due to injury, but will be hoping to return to his best form in 2024-25.

General manager Paul Green added: “We are delighted that Sam has extended his contract with the club.

“Sam is a leader and one of the best strikers and scorers.

“He was very important to our success, and we look forward to welcoming him back from injury next season.”
