Errol Spence explains why he feels his fighter Frank Martin will beat Gervonta Davis

Talking to The hub of combat Former welterweight champion Errol Spence has made it clear that he feels that his star, Frank Martin, will shock the world by defeating Gervonta “Tank” Davis on June 15 in Las Vegas. “I can see him raising his hand,” Spence said of the undefeated Martin. “I feel like he’s the best (and) most skilled fighter Tank has ever fought.” Although Davis has defeated well-known fighters such as Leo Santa Cruz and Ryan Garcia, Spence feels that the Baltimore-based star will face a new type of opponent in Martin.

“He (Davis) can’t really take those rounds off,” Spence continued, “like he’s going in the seventh, eighth round and hoping to get knocked down.” Not that Spence doesn’t feel Davis won’t give 100 percent. “Tanks are going to fight,” Spence agreed. “He’s a strong fighter, but I feel like Franks is definitely going to win it…he’s going to see (Garcia’s) speed, he’s going to see the power, he’s going to see the power that Frank brings.” Of course, Davis brings his speed, strength and power. There’s a reason he’s so popular, after all, it’s something Martin and Spence don’t know very well.

However, stranger things happened than Martin’s win this weekend (some of us still remember watching the Douglas-Tyson fight with red eyes as it went down live). That being said, Davis has earned his reputation. His style is sharp and controlled, his headspace sharp as he works inside the ring. Davis never loses patience when the going gets tough. He trusts his ability to an incredible degree. The boy can also turn off the lights. However, Frank Martin is not considered a high-level threat to Davis as the clock ticks down toward the opening bell. If Martin wins, it will be difficult for the sport.

Indeed, if Martin manages to moderate the upset, no one – except perhaps Martin himself – will be happier than Spence. The young man needs good news, as his last fight, a true rematch against Terence Crawford, resulted in Spence suffering a crushing defeat – the first of the man’s highly praised and decorated career. There is no doubt that Martin plans to make his promoter happy on the 15th of June. And after the Davis-Martin fight is over? Spence revealed that he is ready to return to the ring himself. One might think that Martin would be there to cheer on his man.
