Exclusive: Fabrizio Romano provides key transfer update on Arsenal, Man United and Aston Villa
Transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano has given a fresh update on Amadou Onana’s status as he has been linked with Arsenal and Aston Villa, and his future at Everton could influence Manchester United’s pursuit of Jarrad Branthwaite.
Specially speaking CaughtOffside in his latest Daily Briefing column, Romano explained that Arsenal have long been interested in Onana, having the Belgian on their list in January and last summer, but without doing anything for him then.
It seems to be the same situation now, according to Romano, without direct negotiations taking place, even if Arsenal appreciates the player and Everton expects some measures for the 22-year-old.
Romano has played down links with Aston Villa, however, insisting their priority remains to complete a deal with Juventus to sell Douglas Luiz and land Weston McKennie and Samuel Iling-Junior in return.
Onana shares the latest and how it affects Branthwaite at Manchester United
Romano also gave an insight into why Everton are holding on to Branthwaite, as they will not accept any low offer for the defender while awaiting interest from Onana.
“Many of you have been asking me about the situation of Amadou Onana. At the moment it is a matter of Everton feeling that something could happen to Onana this summer, which is why they have not accepted any offer from Manchester United for Jarrad Branthwaite – they received an offer of £35m plus add-ons from Man United but they said no, because they wanted at least £ 65-70m, so it’s not easy,” said Romano.
“Nevertheless, it is important to say that Everton are expecting a move from Onana. We have had rumors about Arsenal but at the moment they have not received an official offer. Arsenal were tracking Onana, a player on their list, last summer and in January, although they decided not to enter into negotiations.
“Arsenal is keeping a close eye on Onana but at the moment there is no direct contact, let’s see what will happen, but for Everton the expectation is that other clubs will move the Belgian player.
“Onana has also been linked with Aston Villa, but my understanding is that Villa are still focused on a deal that includes Douglas Luiz joining Juventus, while Weston McKennie and Samuel Iling-Junior are going in the other direction.”
