Exclusive: Liverpool to open talks to beat Man United in potential €60m transfer
Liverpool are set to open talks over a €60m transfer deal for the Bayer Leverkusen defender Odilon Kossounou, sources said CaughtOffside.
The Reds are leading the race for the Ivory Coast player who is also attracting players such as Manchester United, Tottenham, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. CaughtOffside you understand.
Kossounou has impressed in the Bundesliga and it seems he now has a definite chance to leave for a new challenge this summer, with the player yet to respond to a new contract offer from Leverkusen.
The 23-year-old’s contract with Leverkusen expires in 2026, so the club may not be in too much of a rush to sell him, but one imagines a deal could be reached if the money is right.
It is understood that Liverpool and other interested clubs will have to pay around €60 million for Kossounou, with the Merseyside giants expected to step up negotiations soon, possibly in the next month or so.
Kossounou transfer: Liverpool are pursuing a talented young defender
New signings for the long-serving young defender have been a priority for LFC ahead of this summer, and it seems that Kossounou is now emerging as a strong option for the Premier League club after being closely watched in recent months.
Other scouts from English clubs are keeping an eye on Kossounou, but it remains to be seen whether the likes of United and Spurs will decide to increase their interest in the way Liverpool appear to be doing.
Talking to CaughtOffside Earlier today, Fabrizio Romano made it clear that United are looking for at least one, and possibly two, new defenders this summer, although he named Antonio Silva, Jean-Clair Todibo, Jarrad Branthwaite and Gleison Bremer as their top four targets.
However, with Liverpool set to be in the Champions League next season, they are certainly a more tempting option than United right now.
