Julian Alvarez’s ‘first choice transfer point’ revealed

Real Madrid is the preferred destination for Julian Alvarez if he leaves Manchester City, according to a report.

The Argentinian has been linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium amid concerns over his playing time, sitting behind Erling Haaland in terms of striking the striker.

He has been linked with Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Premier League side Chelsea, however Athletic revealed that Alvarez’s top choice would be Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Although Alvarez has no way to Madrid this summer, City will be looking for a replacement in the event of an exit.

Alvarez joined Pep Guardiola’s side in the summer of 2022 after enjoying a six-month loan spell at his club River Plate before becoming a key member of the City squad. He is often asked to step up when Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne are still injured, but he has also spent a lot of time on the bench.

Despite the problems with his playing time, Alvarez has made 54 appearances in all competitions during City’s 2023/24 title campaign, registering 19 goals and 13 assists. He also confirmed that he is happy at Guardiola’s team, despite rumors linking him elsewhere.

Talking to ESPN while playing against Argentina, Alvarez said: “These are the things that are said, but I am calm. I am free and happy at City. We will see what happens.”

For now, Alvarez must focus on the Copa America, with Argentina looking to steal its 16th title and become the most decorated country in South America. The reigning world champions face Canada on June 21 in their first group stage match, before facing Chile and Peru.
