Jurgen Klopp teases Man Utd, Man City and Chelsea as part of Liverpool’s final farewell

Jurgen Klopp took charge of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea during the last stop of his farewell tour in Liverpool.

The German stepped down as Reds manager at the end of the 2023/24 season, ending a memorable nine years at Anfield.

He took charge of his last game for the club on 19 May – a 2-0 win at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers – before seeing off his tenure with an event at the M&S Bank Arena on Tuesday night, hosted by comedian and lifelong Liverpool fan John Bishop.

Klopp revealed that among many topics, including VAR and the 12:30 kick-off, he was told not to talk about City. But when Bishop put it to him that Liverpool could be awarded two more titles if the Premier League took action against City for breaching the 115 rules of the financial rules, Klopp replied: “If you’re planning a bus show, I’m in.” it takes, I don’t care how long.”

City were not the only rivals that Klopp took a swipe at, he turned to United to suggest that they mishandled the signing of Jadon Sancho.

“If the whole world loses confidence and trust in a player, the manager should be the one behind the player,” Klopp said when talking about his style of managing people.

“I can’t just buy that he’s ‘irrelevant’, like other clubs are doing – buying a player for £80m and loaning him out!” he added, referring to United’s decision to bring Sancho back to Borussia Dortmund in January.

Klopp also took time to defend Liverpool’s breakaway owners FSG, saying he would much rather work under them than Todd Boehly and BlueCo at Chelsea after the shock exit of head coach Mauricio Pochettino.

“Owners do what owners do,” Klopp continued. “Surprise! The owners want to make money. I’m sorry to tell you that.

“It’s not like they get money every day: they invest some money and that’s how the world goes.

“We should be very happy to have them and not the guys who bought the London teams. I wouldn’t have lived a year in Liverpool (with them).

“At the end (Chelsea) play football that everyone thinks ‘Oh, they might come back’ and they sack the manager anyway!
