The American took to Twitter to shout out insulting fans after his two hour and 43 minute win, saying: “Shout out to my followers for talking bad about my girlfriend, family and team for 2.5 hours. Thanks for the extra encouragement – ​​I love you all!”


27th-ranked Korda picked up his first win in Rome, making his third appearance, and will face Taylor Fritz in the third round.

Fritz eliminated another Italian, Fabio Fognini, 6-3, 6-4.
