Man City’s best and worst FA Cup final defeat by Man Utd
Manchester City saw their rivals Manchester United get the better of this year’s FA Cup final as the Red Devils showed Cityzens victory in 2023.
Strikes from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo gave United a 2-0 lead at the break, before Jeremy Doku broke the deadlock late on to give Pep Guardiola’s side a narrow lead.
Here are City’s best and worst players from the tournament according to him 90 min player ratings.
Jeremy Doku – 8/10
Questions may arise as to why the Belgian did not start the clash at Wembley. Known for his speed and skill, Doku often caught his opponents off guard, and Saturday proved the same.
Entering the game at half-time as a substitute for Mateo Kovacic, Doku posed a serious challenge to Aaron Wan-Bissaka, handling the ball quickly and staying in threatening positions.
Although the United defender is praised by many, he was unable to stop Doku from finding the net in this game.
Phil Foden – 6/10
The Premier League Player of the Season was City’s brightest spark until Doku left.
Foden had plenty of possession in the sanctuary but struggled to overcome the defense of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.
Erling Haaland often cuts a frustrated figure as the 23-year-old slows down to pass the ball at key moments to provide a threat in front of goal.
Stefan Ortega – 3/10
Ortega’s rush to face Alejandro Garnacho was a reckless move and one that would prove costly in the end.
City fans would have been disappointed with the way this goalkeeper played, especially if he replaced Ederson when he was injured last season.
With the memories of his strong performances fresh in their minds, fans would expect him to perform well again in such an important game.
