Match Report – PAK-W vs WI-W 5th T20I, May 03, 2024

The West Indies 136 for 2 (Matthews 78, Campbelle 33*, Iqbal 1-24) beat Pakistan 134 for 8 (Ameen 48, Muneeba 25, Fletcher 3-17) by eight wickets
But, led by legspinner Afy Fletcher, West Indies made a huge dent for Pakistan. Only Rameen Shamim, who ended up hitting an unbeaten 11-ball 16 to get Pakistan past 130, managed to score double figures after the top three. Pakistan lost seven wickets for 37 runs as Fletcher, Joseph and Matthews all came in, strangling the innings until Shamim’s last over flourished. Sidra scored 52 off 48 balls for Pakistan.
But the West Indies had momentum, and they never really lost it. Matthews started cautiously again, allowing Rashada Williams to land the early jabs. Sadia Iqbal got him out in the fifth over, but that brought out Shemaine Campbelle, who, along with Matthews, put together a 103-run partnership, ending any Pakistan hopes of a repeat victory. In the second half of that innings, Matthews seemed to find boundaries at will, 11 of which he sprinkled throughout his innings as he passed 50 and helped his team score towards what looked like an inadequate target. Campbell, on the other hand, managed to score an unbeaten 33 in 35, enjoying playing second fiddle to the master in full flow.
Pakistan managed to get Matthews out for the last time in the series, Nashra Sandhu sent him back. But by then, West Indies needed just seven to win, and Matthews’ career was over.
