Michael Olise explains why he rejected Man United’s move to Chelsea

Michael Olise was confirmed as a Bayern Munich player on Sunday and after the announcement the winger explained why he chose the Bundesliga giants over Premier League duo Man United and Chelsea.

The 22-year-old was expected to leave Crystal Palace this summer as the France star has a release clause that can be reached in his contract at Selhurst Park.

This attracted a number of European clubs to Olise, especially after his strong finish to the 2023/24 campaign, where he produced seven goals in the last six Premier League games for the Eagles.

In the end, Bayern Munich won the race for the Crystal Palace star and signed the winger as part of a £45m deal, with £5m in add-ons and a sell-on clause included.

Ollie has signed a five-year contract until June 2029 at the Allianz Arena and after being unveiled as Bayern’s new signing, the 22-year-old explained why he chose to move to Germany over staying in the Premier League.

Michael Olise explains why he turned down Man United and Chelsea

Prior to the opening of the summer transfer window, ESPN reported that Man United were considered frontrunners to sign Olise this summer as the Manchester club held the player in high esteem.

Chelsea have also looked at his situation at Selhurst Park as they attempted to sign the player during last summer’s transfer window after activating the £35m release clause in his old contract.

However, Olise decided to turn down the chance to stay in England and has now explained why he chose to move to Bayern Munich.

“The discussions with Bayern were very good. I am very happy to play for such a great team,” said the player who has won for Fabrizio Romano when asked why he decided to join the German team over other clubs.

“It’s a big challenge, exactly what I wanted. I want to prove myself at this level and win titles.”
