NHL News: Stars, Oilers, Hurricanes, Jets, Canucks, Blackhawks, and Islanders
Roope Hintz is likely tonight
Lia Assimakopoulos: Dallas Stars coach Pete DeBoer said forward Roope Hintz skated yesterday and could be in Game 2 tonight.
Adam Henrique could be a Game 2 option
Elliotte Friedman: Edmonton Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch said he is considering putting Adam Henrique first on the roster. Knoblauch said Henrique is at 98%.
Don Waddell is leaving the Carolina Hurricanes
Carolina Hurricanes: Hurricanes president and GM Don Waddell resigned from both positions.
The Hurricanes named Eric Tulsky as interim GM.
Pierre LeBrun: “… Waddell’s contract is expiring and he has made the decision to move on after 10 years in Carolina. We’ll see what happens in Columbus where there are other candidates in play. But my sense is that Waddell is at peace even if it is time to move on. “
The Winnipeg Jets have named Scott Arniel their head coach
Darren Dreger: The Winnipeg Jets have named Scott Arniel their next coach.
Arniel was the front runner from the start. They interviewed a few of the top ones.
Vancouver Canucks name new AHL head coach
The Vancouver Canucks: The Canucks announced that Manny Malhotra has been hired as the head coach of the AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks.
Mark Masters: Malhotra: “Being able to return to #Floods the organization is a great opportunity for me and my family … I would like to thank the Leafs for giving me the opportunity to work with them for the past four years”
The Chicago Blackhawks and New York Islanders traded draft picks
New York Islanders: Islanders trade their 2024 first-round pick (#18) and second-round pick (#50) to the Chicago Blackhawks for a 2024 first-round pick (#20 – TB), and two second-round picks (#54 – LA and #61 – VAN).
Adam Kimelman: “It gives the Blackhawks 2 steps closer if another team sees a player they really like. No. 18 has more value than No. 20. Or, if they want to use that pick to get a current player before the draft, same situation. Lots of CHI options here. “
Chris Peters: “It’s a little surprising to see the trade early, but at the same time the cost of going up was not too high to give yourself better options. What I wonder is what (if anything) this could predict for what Chicago does at No.
Arpon Basu: “This is interesting so far without the draft. Usually deals like this happen on the draft floor. It makes you wonder if this is related to another trade.”
Stephen Rosner: “You have to think there is more to this.
Using the PuckPedia Perri Pick Value Calc, #Black people let the draft value less than 0.631 than #Islands.
What is the price? Using the Find Fair Trade button, we find that this is fair trade, #Black people should have also offered a 5th round Pick (#136). pic.twitter.com/YimMQKXONP

A strange trade.@domluszczyszynThe option value model has this as an obvious win for NYI.
Psychologically, giving up pick 61 to move up a few spots with those two picks is an upside.
Especially since Chicago doesn’t know who will be available at 18 or 50. pic.twitter.com/oRSBFs0afl
