Nikita Parris turns down a lucrative move
On this day, any player who turns down a great opportunity to play for his current club in the FA Cup final should be applauded.
It’s not uncommon for some teams to make it to the end of the season, although the usual suspects are often there or gone as the finals begin to appear.
This year’s men’s final will be between Man United and Man City, the first time there have been back-to-back FA Cup finals between the same teams since the 1890s.
Nikita Parris wants to play in the FA Women’s Cup final
The Red Devils are also in the FA Women’s Cup final against Tottenham Hotspur, and their Nikita Parris turned down a record-breaking deal to face the Lilywhites.
According to The Athletic (subscription required), Parris was the subject of a transfer bid from National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) side North Carolina Courage.
The move would apparently have earned him a cool £1m over the course of what would have been a three-year contract.
Not even seven figures are enough to tempt him to the Red Devils, and with the signing window having passed, the clubs and Parris himself will need to wait until later in the summer before any potential negotiations are held.
That is always assuming that the Braves will still be interested in acquiring his services.
They may take a once-bite, twice-shy approach, and that will leave United with a conundrum as Parris is still young and out of contract soon.
There is an option for them to consider extending his contract by 12 months, but it now looks like nothing will be decided until after the result of the game against Tottenham.
