Philadelphia Flyers Re-Sign Egor Zamula to 2-Year Contract – Hockey Writers – Flyers Deals

The Philadelphia Flyers signed their last restricted free agent (RFA) to a contract on July 7, 2024, meaning they could essentially make a move this offseason if they wanted to. Defenseman Egor Zamula, 24, was extended a two-year contract worth $1.7 million per year.

Zamula took on his first full-time NHL role with the Flyers last season, appearing in 66 games in a deep defense role. He scored five goals and had 16 assists for 21 points, posting a plus-3 average in the program. He was an effective player for Philadelphia especially when the bodies were tied up.

Zamula, given that he is Russian but plays in the Canadian minor leagues, could prove to be a good mentor for 19-year-old Russian Matvei Michkov, who will join the Flyers in 2024-25. The latter has played in Russia all his life, so there are a few cultural barriers to overcome. The reason is simple: two players can get along.

Right now, the Flyers defense seems to be stacked in depth. All 10 of these players appeared in games for the Orange and Black in 2023-24, and all could fight for a spot on the opening night roster. Here’s what we’re looking at:

Left Defense Right Defense
Cam York Travis Sanheim
Nick Seeler Jamie Drysdale
Egor Zamula Rasmus Ristolainen
Emil Andrae Erik Johnson
Adam Ginning Ronnie Attard

Zamula may have to battle some players here to match his 66-game point streak last season, but it should ultimately be a good workout for the Flyers’ defense. The greater their depth, the better their performance on the ice. Zamula won’t have a guaranteed spot on the roster every night, and his cap number reflects that.
