The Vancouver Whitecaps are telling fans not to expect the Inter Miami trio
Vancouver Whitecaps FC released a statement on May 23 that Inter Miami’s three players Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets and Luis Suarez will not attend their match this weekend.
“Although we have not received an official update on the availability of Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, and Sergio Busquets this weekend, we understand that they will not make the trip. Unfortunately, we have no control over who plays for our opponent, “and it was important for us to communicate with our fans as soon as possible,” said Axel Schuster, CEO of Whitecaps FC in a statement.
“We always want our best players against our opponent’s best players, and facing the top-ranked players was very exciting for our team. We know there will be many disappointed fans. We are still determined to make this a special experience for everyone. It will still be a great atmosphere and a celebration of football for the city.” We have amazing fans, we have a great team, and Saturday’s game is a very important home game for us.
Whitecaps FC announced that Inter Miami coach, Gerardo “Tata” Martino, will provide more information during a press conference on Friday.
Fans traveling and attending will obviously be disappointed that the three will not be playing, The Whitecaps will be selling all food and drinks at the stadium for the game at a 50 percent discount. Also, all attendees 18 and under will be provided with a free children’s meal combo.
All three players participated in practice on Tuesday, and fans are waiting for more information to hear if there is any update on the injury. This will be the seventh game for Lionel Messi to miss, due to injury or absence.
