Tottenham vs Burnley: Preview, predictions and fixtures

Tottenham Hotspur look to end a difficult few weeks this Saturday when they host Burnley in the Premier League.

Spurs have lost their last four games and have seen their dreams of qualifying for the Champions League disappear. They have now not kept a clean sheet since the start of March and lost their last game 4-2 at the hands of Liverpool last Sunday, with defeat this weekend officially ending their pursuit of the top four.

Fortunately for Ange Postecoglou, Burnley have their own problems to deal with. In fact, despite recent good results, the Clarets will be relegated this weekend if they fail to win at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and even victory will not be enough if Nottingham Forest beat Chelsea later on.

Recent history suggests that Burnley could be relegated on Saturday evening having lost both of their games against Spurs this season. The first was a 5-2 defeat at Turf Moor in the league, and the second was a 1-0 defeat in north London in the FA Cup.

Here it is 90 min game preview.

Tottenham’s injury concerns have not spared them their recent slump, with six players out for the entire campaign. Three of these are defenders in Destiny Udogie, Ben Davies and Ryan Sessegnon, which forced the unsatisfying Emerson Royal to come in against Chelsea and Liverpool.

Loanee Timo Werner may have played his last game for Spurs following a hamstring injury, while Manor Solomon and Fraser Forster remain sidelined.

Tottenham predicted system (4-2-3-1): Vicar; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Emerson; Hojbjerg, Bissouma; Johnson, Maddison, Son; Richarlison.

Luca Koleosho

Burnley also have a number of players out until next season, including defenders Jordan Beyer and Ameen Al-Dakhil. Nathan Redmond and Aaron Ramsey are also out for the final games of the campaign.

However, Luca Koleosho could return to the wing after being injured since December, while Maxime Esteve could be a doubt for his knock against Newcastle United last week.

Burnley predicted formation (4-4-2): Muric; Assignon, O’Shea, Ekdal, Vitinho; Odobert, Berge, Cullen, Larsen; Foster, Fofana.

Tottenham wouldn’t be given a very exciting game to get back on track, even if Burnley were spending their lives in the relegation zone. The Clarets have scored 74 goals in 36 games this season, including five against Spurs earlier this season, while the Lilywhites have shown some attacking flair in recent weeks despite poor results.

However, Burnley will be given hope by Spurs’ poor defensive record. They have conceded 13 times in their last four games, and have also conceded goals against Luton Town, Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest at home this season. Even if the Clarets manage to shore up a shaky defence, they are unlikely to secure the victory they need.

Prediction: Tottenham 2-1 Burnley
