Two-time NBA champion Bill Walton is 71

Bill Walton, a two-time NBA champion and Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer, died today at the age of 71 following a long battle with cancer.

Walton, who was a powerhouse at UCLA and in the NBA, was surrounded by his family when he passed away.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver released a statement honoring Walton’s contributions to basketball on and off the court.

Silver praised Walton’s unique ability, which redefined the center position and earned him numerous accolades, including the NBA’s regular season and Finals MVP awards, and the NBA’s 50th and 75th Anniversary Teams.
