Valencia are waiting for Newcastle to complete the signing of Giorgi Mamadashvili

Newcastle United are reportedly interested in Giorgi Mamadashvili from Valencia as Eddie Howe considers signing the goalkeeper this summer.

Nick Pope is the Magpies’ first-choice stopper but has spent most of the season sidelined with injury.

There has been talk of Howe looking to replace the England international ahead of the 2024/25 campaign and according to CopeNewcastle splashed out €41 million to sign Mamardashvili at the weekend.

Super Deporte now report that Valencia manager Ruben Baraja is open to selling the 23-year-old as it will help raise funds for new additions during the upcoming transfer window.

Newcastle are believed to be leading the race for the Georgia star, but the report says no deal has been reached yet.

The 6ft 6in goalkeeper also needs to decide whether he wants to move to Newcastle as the player has a contract at the Mestalla until 2027.

Giorgi Mamadashvili is on Newcastle United’s radar

Giorgi Mamadashvili would be a great signing for Newcastle

The signing of Mamardashvili would be good for Newcastle but it’s hard to justify spending €41m on a goalkeeper when the Magpies already have a top stopper.

That money could be used to strengthen other key areas such as Howe’s central defense or midfield as it is possible that the Tyneside team could lose Bruno Guimaraes this summer with Man City and Arsenal interested in the Brazilian.

It remains to be seen whether Newcastle make a formal move for Mamardashvili as the goalkeeper is a player the Magpies appear to have a long-term interest in.
