West Ham’s James Ward-Prowse could be sold after one season

West Ham are believed to be considering selling James Ward-Prowse just one year after signing the midfielder from Southampton.

The London club need to sign more players ahead of the 2024/25 campaign as last season was a difficult one for the Hammers, winning just five of their last 25 games.

The East London outfit do not have European football and the funds they bring in, therefore, the Premier League club will need to be sold to help fund their summer transfer window. The Irons may have banked on landing Lucas Paqueta, however, with the Brazilian in trouble for breaking betting rules, that may not happen.

According to West Ham Football, an insider said West Ham will have around £100m to spend this summer but will need to sell players to raise the extra money. One star in question was Ward-Prowse, who only joined the Hammers last summer.

“If we think Lucas Paqueta doesn’t leave this summer then West Ham should have £100m to spend on a trade,” said West Ham football.

“That’s based on spending around £30m set to finish 9th this season plus £30m in extra money from the Europa League and £40m in player sales assuming Benny (Said Benrahma) is sold for £ 15m and (Flynn) Downes is being sold (for around £15.5m on top of (Thilo) Kehrer who has already been sold for £9.5m.

“Further sales of players like (Nayef) Aguerd, (Danny) Ings, (Michail) Antonio or James Ward-Prowse would add a lot to the transfer pot in the summer.”

Will West Ham sell James Ward-Prowse?

West Ham should try to get the best out of James Ward-Prowse, not sell him

Selling Ward-Prowse would be a crazy decision from West Ham as the midfielder has a lot to offer the London club. The England star is a set-piece wizard, has a wealth of Premier League experience, and produces plenty of goals and assists for the teams he plays for.

The 29-year-old player has not been at his best this season at West Ham but it should be noted that the London club is the first team he has played for outside of Southampton.

The campaign was Ward-Prowse’s first in London since his £30m move from Saints last summer and with the best players around him next season, Julen Lopetegui is likely to get the best out of the England midfielder.
