Belgium made a shocking decision on Thibaut Courtois ahead of Euro 2024

Belgium have left Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois out of their provisional 25-man squad for Euro 2024.

Courtois spent most of the 2023/24 season recovering from an ACL tear, while also spending time on the sidelines with a meniscus injury shortly before his return to action.

The 32-year-old played four games in the last leg of Madrid’s successful La Liga campaign, and could feature again in Saturday’s Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund.

However, Courtois will be rested in the summer after being overlooked for Belgium’s Euro 2024 campaign.

Red Devils manager Domenico Tedesco has decided to select Wolfsburg’s Koen Casteels, Luton Town’s Thomas Kaminski and Nottingham Forest’s Matz Sels. The trio have a combined 17 senior caps, with Courtois boasting 102 alone – Jan Vertonghen, Axel Witsel, Toby Alderweireld, Eden Hazard, Romelu Lukaku and Dries Mertens have played more for Belgium.

This will be the first major tournament Courtois has missed since Belgium’s relegation, which includes the 2014, 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups, as well as the 2016 and 2020 Euros.
