NHL Rumors: Mitch Marner – Chicago Blackhawks and Nashville Predators

Could the Chicago Blackhawks and Nashville Predators be interested in Mitch Marner?

Scott Athletic Power: (mailbag) A reader asks about the Seth Jones for Mitch Marner trade. Jones is not untouchable for the Blackhawks but he could create a hole in the organization with what he brings to the table. They don’t really have a replacement yet. Dom Luszczysyzn said there may not be a better defender to play with Connor Bedard. He is a good player and a good defender.

Don’t think the Blackhawks will trade Marner. Would he even want to waive his no-movement clause and sign an eight-year deal? He has to figure he’ll want more than his current $10.9 million. It’s hard to see the Blackhawks wanting to do much in this rebuilding phase.

NHL Rumors: Are Toronto Maple Leafs Talking to Nashville Predators About Mitch Marner?

Pierre LeBrun of the Athletic: Nashville Predators GM Barry Trotz knows Mitch Marner’s projection is there.

As of earlier this week, the Toronto Maple Leafs have not spoken to anyone about Marner. The Predators and Leafs have not spoken and despite that, the Marner to the Predators rumor has become a thing.

Marner doesn’t have a full swing and at this point, he hasn’t made the list and there’s never been any intention of making a list.

Either team will want an extension included in any Marner trade. It would be surprising if anyone would make a trade offer to the Leafs without an extension as Marner is a year away from unrestricted free agency.

Roman Josi is the highest paid player on the Predators at $9.059 million, followed by Filip Forsberg at $8.5 million. Marner comes in at $10.9 million. Nashville is in a tax-exempt state.

The Juuse Saros – Joseph Woll tandem will be fun. It is believed that the Maple Leafs are looking to find a top goaltender to pair with Woll. It wouldn’t be surprising if Leafs GM Brad Treliving checked out Jacob Markstrom.

The Predators have said they want to extend Saros, but may consider trading him if negotiations don’t go well.

NHL Rumors: Are Toronto Maple Leafs Talking to Nashville Predators About Mitch Marner?

You don’t get the sense at this point that the Leafs are committed to trading Marner, and that’s unless he says he’ll be fine moving forward.
