Ravichandran Ashwin returns to Chennai Super Kings; CEO KS Viswanathan revealed the star spinner’s new role

Ravichandran Ashwinthe veteran Indian off-spinner, has had the power to Indian Premier League (IPL) since he started with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2009. Known for his cricketing brilliance and tactical prowess, Ashwin has played a vital role in the success of his teams over the years. His ability to adapt and innovate has made him one of the most respected bowlers in the league, contributing greatly to the overall competitiveness of the IPL.

Ashwin has once again joined the Super Kings, but this time in a key role within Superking Ventures, a subsidiary of CSK. KS ViswanathanCEO of Chennai Super Kings Ltd, expressed happiness over Ashwin’s return.

“We are happy with Ashwin’s return. He will have a major role to play in Superkings Ventures and our High-Performance Center,” Viswanathan said as quoted by TOI.

Reflecting on his comeback, Ashwin shared his enthusiasm to contribute to the cricketing community once again.

“Growing the game and contributing to the cricket team is my focus. I feel happy to be back where it all started for me,” said the Chennai-born jita.

Meanwhile, CSK chief Viswanathan highlighted Ashwin’s dedication and potential impact on the new generation of cricketers.

“He is one of the best cricketers from Tamil Nadu and is known for striving for excellence. His dedication to the game at any level, be it India, Tamil Nadu, or even the club, is well known. He will be someone who knows how to direct the center and nurture the young talents that are coming up,” added Viswanathan.

Ashwin’s journey in IPL

Ashwin’s IPL journey started with CSK, where he made his debut in 2009 and played till 2015. He was an important part of the team, he contributed to their winning many titles. In 2018, he was taken Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in the big auction, marking CSK’s return to the tournament after a two-year hiatus. Ahead of IPL 2020, Ashwin was traded to him Delhi Capitals (DC)where he played for two seasons before transferring Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2022.

Notably, since 2018, Ashwin has played for the Take Solutions MRC ‘A’ team in the TNCA first division till last season. Now, with his return to India Cements, Ashwin will be eligible to compete against India Cements teams in the upcoming 2024-25 first division season, which starts on Thursday. His expertise will come in handy at CSK’s High-Performance Center in Navalur, which is slated to host TNCA first division matches this year.
