‘We weren’t named’ – Mikel Arteta criticizes Arsenal’s performance in victory over Man Utd
Mikel Arteta has criticized Arsenal’s performance in their narrow win at Manchester United as they continue to chase the Premier League title.
Arsenal managed to record a 1-0 victory over the Red Devils thanks to Leandro Trossard’s first goal, but ended up giving a poor performance at Old Trafford.
The result was enough to return them to the top spot above Manchester City, but left Arteta feeling nervous on the sidelines.
The Gunners manager was happy with the result of the game, but pointed out that his side were far from wrong.
Talking to BBC SportHe said: “We needed a result today in a really difficult place. Our history was not compatible with today’s result, there is a lot at stake and we are happy with the result.
“We started the game well and dominated. We scored a goal and I think the goal led to bad things because we started playing safe, we looked too much to the side, we went back too much and we didn’t have enough structure.
“We weren’t organised, we weren’t clean enough, we weren’t consistent enough and we did the simple things the right way. That doesn’t give you control of the game.
“Other players weren’t in this position, they don’t know what’s at stake and how you feel emotionally to win and win since December or January. It’s an amazing thing they’re doing.”
Arsenal’s result sees them regain their place at the top ahead of City, who face Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday. The Gunners will play their last game of the season against Everton at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, while the Cityzens will host West Ham United.
